Digitalization and Subjectivities: Findings on Wearable Technology Anxiety Perception

The increasing popularity of wearable technology and the need for social evaluation of these devices are undeniable current realities. To explore both aspects, this paper presents some results from a quantitative study involving 200 respondents on perceptions of anxiety experienced by smartwatch users in Romania when using the device for medical purposes. The findings indicate that, although most respondents did not notice any change in their anxiety levels after using a smartwatch, some differences did emerge. Specifically, among those who reported feeling anxious after wearing a smartwatch, the highest percentages were among people over 65 years old, women, individuals with high school education, and residents of rural areas. Male respondents made up the most significant percentage of those who felt that wearing a smartwatch improved their overall well-being and that they experienced changes in their sleep patterns.
