Physical security systems for oil and gas extraction platforms

Oil and gas extraction platforms operate in hazardous and isolated environments, requiring advanced protection against both physical and cyber-physical threats. This paper proposes an integrated framework for physical security, combining fire detection and alarm systems, intrusion detection, access control, and closed-circuit television (CCTV) with a centralized management platform. Emphasis is placed on compliance with internation standards such as EN 54, NFPA 72, IEC 60079, and ATEX to ensure reliability in explosive environments. A prototype system, designed and tested in-house, is presented as a case study to illustrate practical implementation. Results highlight the benefits of integration in enhancing situational awareness, reducing response time, and mitigating risks to personnel and critical assets.
