Solution for Power Quality Improvement Considering the Effects of the Main Network Elements
This paper presents a comprehensive solution for improving power quality in electrical networks by addressing energy losses in key infrastructure components such as distribution lines and transformers. It introduces a dynamic reactive power compensation system that operates based on real-time measurements and communication-based control, enabling accurate compensation even when the compensation point differs from the billing point. The study emphasizes the importance of the Point of Common Coupling (PCC) in evaluating power quality and outlines methods for calculating active and reactive losses using advanced power meters and programmable logic controllers. A practical implementation using Schneider Electric’s PowerLogic ION7400 and Accusine EVC+ systems validates the suggested method. It mainly demonstrates how reactive power compensation can be optimized to maintain a near-unity power factor at the billing point, thereby reducing penalties and enhancing system efficiency. The proposed approach ensures reliable energy supply, minimizes equipment stress, and supports regulatory compliance in modern grid-connected environments.
