Study of a safety system for sockets
This article aims to present a study effectuated on a safety system for sockets. This system uses closed superelastic Nitinol springs. When the single-phase socket carries a higher current, the material from which the blades are made expands, and as a result of the expansion, the contact between the socket blades and the plug pins becomes imperfect, thus promoting the occurrence of electric arcing and heating of the contacts. At this point, the circular Nitinol springs intervene, contracting due to the high temperature and tightening the blades on the consumer's pins, thus compensating for the expansion of the blades and ensuring a firm contact. This system proved to have high efficiency at low cost.
