Coil Modeling Approaches for the Electromagnetic Performance of Wireless Power Transfer Systems

This paper presents the modeling and analysis of an inductive wireless power transfer (WPT) system. Three numerical models were developed to evaluate the electromagnetic performance under different levels of complexity. A simplified model was first used to provide a fast estimation of system behavior. A detailed model was then implemented, representing the actual coil design with individual turns. Finally, the detailed model was coupled with an external circuit to emulate practical operating conditions and to investigate the resonant frequency and overall efficiency of the WPT system. The results highlight the trade-off between model accuracy and computational effort, showing that simplified models are suitable for early design stages, whereas detailed models are essential for validation, realistic performance prediction, and practical system evaluation.
