Finite Element Analysis of a Hybrid Squirrel Cage Induction - Permanent Magnet Synchronous Electrical Machine

Basic intention of this paper is to promote the Finite Element Analysis as the best solution in the research and optimal design of electrical machines. The object of such an investigation is a hybrid squirrel cage induction – permanent magnet synchronous machine. The description of a coupled field – circuit – motion model of such a machine is followed by the analysis of different aspects of the machine operation. The rated operation and transients associated with the start of this machine are studied. Finally the paper analyzes the control of the speed in electrical drives with such a motor through the variation of the supply parameters frequency and voltage.
