Powertrain Definition and Energy Consumption Analysis for a Solar Electric Vehicle Using Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors

Abstract The challenges for Solar Electric Vehicles (SEV) are ongoing with various studies focusing on the subject. In this context, the present paper analyzes the definition of an electric powertrain, the onboard generation of electric energy using solar panels, and the consumption of electric energy for a small SEV. The investigation begins with vehicle data. An analytical method is used to define a speed profile for a given physical testing circuit using a multi-motor powertrain based on Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (PMSM), resulting in the first calculation for energy consumption. The onboard energy production is investigated by simulation. Also, the simulation is used to verify that the PMSM powertrain allows the vehicle to respect the requested speed profile and verify the electric energy consumption.
